This past year, iPrep Academy continued as an AVID Elementary Certified Site for the third year in a row. We also had an increase in the number of students in the National Junior Honor Society increasing from 33 to 54. iPrep Academy implemented a student led safety patrol.

The mission of iPrep Academy, School Number 8, is to provide excellent educational experiences and services to inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, and to care. We will do this by integrating technology throughout the curriculum in order to make sure that every student is cognitively engaged at high levels. Our shared vision is to be one of the best performing schools in the state of New Jersey.
Classroom teachers utilize technology such as Reading Street Online, Everyday Math, Google Forms, EdConnect, MyAccess, Actively Learn, CMP Math and Actively Learning. We incorporate Unified Classroom by posting class content and lesson plans on it so that it is available to students and parents 24/7 while leveraging it in conjunction with Google Forms that give teachers immediate feedback on student learning.

iPrep Academy offers the following for studetns, WE community projects, coding, comic book club, chess club, yearbook and safety patrol.
iPrep Academy offers afterschool activities for all student in grades K-8 in the following areas; coding, dance, sports, comic book club, band, art, chess, WE Schools community projects and yearbook. Students are also given the opportunity to take part in our lunch time homework club. National Junior Honor Society members are selected to take part in our volunteer peer tutoring program.
Professional development at the school level was provided to help teachers read and intepret student data in order to drive instruction.
English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities both receive in-class support for forty five minutes in both language arts and math. Students that need extra help are allowed to join the homework club where they are offered support three days per week in math, language arts and social studies. National Junior Honor Society students volunteer their lunch time to tutor students in grades K-4. We also had a Title I afterschool tutoring program for students in grades 3-8.
iPrep Academy offered a rigorous PE program for all students in grades K-8. We also had an After School Program for all students in dance and sports. All students participate in lunch recess for twenty minutes per day. IPrep Academy offers breakfast, lunch and afterschool snakes to all students in the afterschool program which are FDA approved. We have earned the Healthy Schools Silver Award from the Alliance for a Healthy Generation and the Bronze Award as a Healthy School from the USDA. iPrep Academy took part in Jump Rope for Heart, NY Jet Play 60 and the NJ Trooper Physical Challenge.
Parents and the community are involved at iPrep Academy in a multitude of ways. They help make up the PTO, School Safety Team and Title I Committee. Several parent workshops are offered throughout the year for parents including HIB, PowerSchool, taking the hassel out of homework and the dangers of technology. Parent portal communication includes PowerSchool, Class Dojo, the iPrep Academy Facebook page and twitter.
The school is composed of two buildings, one was built in 1880 and the other in 1907. The specialized rooms include the science lab, chorus room, band room, art room and iLeap Center. The iLeap Center is a specialized room where teachers and students have access to a SmartBoard, interactive TV, green screen and video recording equipment The buildings have air conditioning in select rooms including the main office, nurseÃ¢ÂÂs room and our special education classrooms.
iPrep Academy utilizes School Safety Surveys that are sent out three times per year to all members of the school community. This past year, we also partnered with NJ Safe Links.
iPrep Academy is one-to-one school that utilizes technology accross the curriculum. Students can join the coding club and take part in the "Hour of Code".
"iPrep Academy is a magnet lottery school that is part of the Elizabeth Board of Education. Every student in the district in grades K-8 has the opportunity to apply. The school utilizes a one-to-one blended learning environment where every student has either a HP tablet or laptop. We incorporate Unified Classrooms by posting class content and lesson plans on it so that it is available to students and parents 24/7. School Number 8 is an AVID Elementary (AE) Certified Site. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID Elementary classes focus on WICOR, W-Writing to learn, I-Inquiry, C-Collaboration, O-Organization, and R-Reading to learn. Students focus on organization by using binders and note taking by using either 2-column, 3-column or Cornell Notes. High order questioning is a priority with AE which includes the way teachers and students create highly skilled questions and the way in which they are answered. AE is based on 4 essentials; Instruction, Culture, Leadership and Systems. iPrep Academy partnered with Future City Elizabeth in Estuary Day, 5th Grade Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (DARE) with the Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Kids Dig In, Jump Rope for Heart and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation was maintained. Our students participated in field trips to The Statue of Liberty, Kean University and Montclair State College. Other activities included Student of the Month each month, Ice Cream Socials, Spartan of the Month, Physical Education Day, Faculty vs. Students Basketball game, Scholastic Book Fairs, Honor Roll/Scholars celebrations, anti-bullying day at Madison Square Garden, Read Across America, American Education Week, Multicultural Parade and Door decorating contests, Poetry and Research Presentations, School Wide Gallery Walks, Holiday and Spring Concerts, Music in the Park at Great Adventure, Food and Coat drives, Student Talent Show and the Union County Teen Arts program.
