McKinley Community SchoolâÂÂs mission is to Prepare, Empower, and Inspire lifelong learners and leaders. Students develop problem- solving and critical thinking skills and learn to apply them to complex challenges. Our students participate in project based learning in our living lab and greenhouse, working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex questions, problems, or challenges.
Students have the opportunity to be involved in S.T.E.M., Environmental Studies, Leadership and Civic activities. Students participate in our AVID Classes, RIME Program, Safety Patrol, Student Council, and Drama Club. All eighth grade students complete a CAPStone project and present their projects at the end of the year.

Students have the opportunity to participate in Drama Club, Student Council, Safety Patrol, STEM Club, Girls who Code and Environmental Club.
Early morning literacy programs are offered for our Kindergarten, first and second grade students. Zero period is also available for students who wish to participate in Orchestra and Choir.
McKinley Community School values the input of all stakeholders in the community. School Climate surveys are done once a year giving stakeholders a voice. Highlights are communicated to stakeholders through newsletters and meetings. Students, as well as parents, indicate that they believe their teachers care about them and work to build strong relationships. Teachers feel comfortable working collaboratively and believe that Administration is here to support them in educating our students.
Students who are struggling are encouraged to attend our Early Morning Intervention Program. Our Intervention and Referral Team meets monthly to provide additional assistance for students. Basic Skills instruction is provided for students in grades first, second and third.
Our Social Emotional Learning program focuses on the importance of building character and community. We encourage this with our monthly PBSIS Community days. Students are recognized by all adults in the building when they engage in our school values; Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and .
Parents and the community are vital to the success of our students. The PTA works collaboratively with our faculty to solidify our partnership in educating our children. Our PTA continues to sponsor events such as the Book Fair, Clothing Drive, Eighth Grade Picnic, Teacher Appreciation Week and academic focused class trips.
Our technology room was redesigned two years ago. The technology room features new Mac Computers. All students in grades 3-5 learn basic CODE. Students work in our living lab and greenhouse implementing problem and project based learning activities.
Every effort is made to ensure the physical and emotional safety of our students. Our security staff works with staff and administration to encourage positive behavior. Our security staff participate in our positive behavior in schools system and recognize students for behavior that demonstrates Safety, Responsibility Respect and Integrity. Additionally, our Safety Patrol students work with our younger students helping them with morning and afterschool procedures.
Students in grades 2 through 8 have one to one chromebooks. Our middle school students take their chromebooks home with them. Many of our classrooms have interactive boards to advance technology in the classrooms. All students in grades 3-8 have technology and digital citizenship in their graphic arts classes.
New Brunswick offers a comprehensive preschool program that implements the research based curriculum Tools of the Mind. The McKinley Community School provides Preschool programming to approximately 225 students throughout 15 classrooms in collaboration with 1200 additional students who attend other district or community provider preschool locations. Pre-Kindergarten experiences for New Brunswick students meet the needs of unique and complex identities, experiences, families, culture and backgrounds. Through a comprehensive curriculum, we shape students learning and development. With an emphasis on the Principles for Learning and the Development of Oral Language; we meet all students with access and equity to ensure we are inclusive and responsive, and our teaching practices and learning environments allow all students to thrive.
