The Morris Plains Borough School (Borough) features a comprehensive Common Core based curriculum for students in third through eighth grades. The continued success of Borough?s students is a direct reflection of the dedicated staff and varied programs and activities offered in academics, athletics, and the arts.
Borough School is implementing its third year of Writer?s Workshop and first year of Reader?s Workshop in all LAL classes and Words Their Way in grades 3-6. All LAL classes are double periods, every day. There is a focus on the implementation of new science and social studies curricula, including the continued adoption of Discovery Ed?s TechBook instructional tools and resources. Foreign language (Spanish) is a vital academic area for all students and is offered beginning in grade 3.

Borough School is exploring personalized learning to support curriculum, instruction, and assessment that meets the needs of our learners and prepares them for future readiness. This includes the development of personalized professional development plans for every staff member, as well as student growth objectives for all teachers. Every teacher is a member of a grade level team that meets every school day to collaborate.
Borough School offers a variety of student support services. These include an intervention and referral service program, 504 plans, as well as individual education plans for students with special needs. For general education students, basics skills math and language arts is offered across all grade levels. We also offer a teacher led homework club after school. For our ELLs, we off an ESL program.
All Borough School students take physical education or health every other day throughout the school year, at every grade level, and have a twenty-one minute recess period every day. Students are encouraged to stay active each and every day. Our lunch program is coordinated by Maschio's Food Service.
Borough School has a very active Home and School Association, as well as an Education Foundation. Both of these organizations help fund a variety of programs and projects at Borough School, from chromebook cases for all students to a state-of-the-art Digital Broadcasting Studio. The district hosts a variety of parent programs througout the school year. All parents have access to a digital parent portal through our student information system, Genesis.
Borough School was built in 1923 and has gone under an number of additions/renovations over the decades. The entire building (with the exception of the gymnaisum) is serviced by central air conditioning and is outfitted with high efficiency LED lighting. Every instructional space through the building is serviced by a high speed wifi access point. We recently added a state-of-the-art Digital Broadcasting Studio.
Borough uses the Google Apps for Education suite of tools to support communication at all levels, including Google Classroom. The entire school building is wired for high speed wireless Internet access and all classrooms have their own access point. This infrastructure supports a one-to-one program that allows all students, in every grade level, to have an assigned Chromebook for use throughout the school day. All classrooms in the building are equipped with either flat screen televisions or interactive whiteboards. Classrooms and other centers in the school are also equipped with Redcat Sound Amplification Systems for Sound Waves. These devices assist with student focus and make instruction more accessible for students in the classroom.
