Learn more about Parkway Elementary School.
Parkway School strives every day to be a "safe harbor" for our students, a nurturing place where they are supported in taking the risks necessary to truly learn and grow. Stepping through the doors, Parkway's children are welcomed each day with the reminder to always be kinder than necessary. We believe that creating open-minded, life-long learners is one of our most important tasks if our youngsters are to be able to follow their dreams and add value to the world.
Our 321 students, Pre-K to Grade 4, spend each day in classrooms designed to challenge them intellectually while at the same time addressing the diversity of instructional needs and learning styles they bring. Attention to fostering the childrenâÂÂs critical thinking skills in math, literacy, science and social studies serve to develop students into life-long learners. Technology is an integral element in everyday instruction.
Parkway School includes a schoolâÂÂwide student council, which builds community as well as strengthens citizenship awareness. We offer Band and Orchestra and instrumental lessons for 4th Grade students, intramurals for third and fourth graders, and a school play.
To assist busy working parents, Parkway offers an after-school program that provides extended, engaging learning experiences in a safe and convenient location, fostering their childrenâÂÂs potential.
The Parkway staff is well-educated, committed and caring; working daily to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our children. Paramus Schools runs a Literacy Institute every summer which is attended by districts throughout the state of NJ. Differentiated professional development is offered during the school year.
In addition to the classroom faculty our school is enriched by professionals in the following areas: Library-media, Basic Skills, Physical Education, Music, Art, Reading, ESL, Enrichment/Technology, School Counseling, as well as a full array of special education services and accommodations.
Each year, the school nurse and the physical education departments collaborate to promote health living. The departments sponsor running clubs, fitness classes during the winter months, dental hygenie assembly, and a health fair each year.
Parkway School has a very active, supportive PTA, which works to enrich the students experience by sponsoring school-wide assemblies, author visits, and family fun events. Parents and community members are invited to classrooms several times a year to celebrate Parkway childrens' learning.
Parkway School is a beautiful ADA compliant facility with 21st century classrooms. Each classroom is supplied with SMARTBoards, reading nooks, student workspace, and technology hubs. Other features include a multi-purpose room, media center, computer lab, and three playground areas for active learners.
School takes many security measures to ensure the safety of the students and staff. Safety measures include locked entrances with swipe card entry; a full time armed security guard, video surveillance inside and outside of the building; a visitor managment system to screen requiring photo id for all visitors; and monthly security drills.
