Students at NBHS excel academically, in the arts and in athletics. Students continue to receive academic and athletic scholarships to universities including Princeton, Cornell, Rutgers, TCNJ, Kean University, and other prestigious institutions. Students participated in the NJ State National History Day Finals presenting research as a documentary. After being announced as state winners, our students represented NJ at the National Championships. The Seal of Biliteracy was awarded to 124 students.

Our Vision: To Prepare, Empower, and Inspire lifelong learners and leaders. Teachers will implement standards-based instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of all students. Students will engage in developmentally-appropriate, research-based learning activities that foster critical thinking skills and high self-esteem. The ongoing, multifaceted parent involvement initiatives will acknowledge the value that is placed on the meaningful involvement of community and family members.
NBHS offers AP courses in Biology, Chemistry, Calculus AB and BC, English Composition, English Literature, Environmental Science, Physics B, Spanish Studio Art and US History. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit in our Dual Enrollment program with Middlesex County College and Rutgers University. NBHS offers an AVID, a national college preparatory program starting in grade 9. Themed institutes are offered to juniors and seniors in STEM and Fine Visual and Performing Arts.

NBHS provides a Play it Smart Program for student athletes facilitated by teacher-tutors, Extended School Day Program facilitated by teacher/tutors, a Before School Study Program facilitated by the Media Specials, Morning Yoga program, Marching Band program and Choir,
Administrators attend professional development presented by the superintendent, assistant superintendents and supervisors. Administrators, turnkey PD for teachers and staff on a monthly schedule. PD is strategic to enhance teacher practice, provide equity for all students and to introduce strategies for teachers to provide instruction that is engaging for all learners. NBHS teachers attend weekly CPT meetings focused on content and curriculum. During CPT's, teachers create and share plans.
We work with closely with Rutgers, Middlesex County College, Johnson and Johnson, PRAB and Robert Wood University Hospital. These partners offer tutoring, internships, grants and scholarships and workshops to help students make college and career decisions. A majority of our students register to take the SAT, ASVAB, and ACT assessments. NBHS students have been accepted to attend Princeton, Cornell, Rutgers, TCNJ, Kean University, Ramapo College, Montclair State University and HBCU Colleges.
NBHS provides English learners with ESL and Bilingual classes that are rigorous and academically challenging. Tutoring programs are available before and after school to support our students. Intervention programs are in place when students require assistance. School Based Services are available during the school day and after school. The high school's referral program supports Positive Behavior Support and Restorative Practices.
Both breakfast and lunch are provided to all students in the high school at no charge. Our food services program offers choices of meals that nutritionally balanced and appealing to our diverse student population. Students learn about nutrition, health and wellness, as it is included in our high school Health and Physical Education program.
Our studentâÂÂs families attend our Back to School Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, Student Led Conferences, Arts performances and Showcase events such as Festival of the Arts, Senior Convocation Financial Aid Workshops, College Fairs, and Health and Wellness Programs. Parents are fully involved and informed as to their childrenâÂÂs academic progress throughout the school year. They are encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions as stakeholders in our high school and the larger community.
We have a state of the art building featuring advanced technology. The school has over 2000 Chromebooks providing one-to-one access in all core classes. All classrooms have Internet access, an integrated LCD projector and sound system. We have a fully equipped television production studio; video editing classroom, electronic music room with numerous computer labs in our facility. Our staff has incorporated varied uses of interactive technology that enhance overall learning experiences.
New Brunswick High School has an infused Law enforcement Collaborative within our 11th grade US History 1 curriculum. New Brunswick Police and Middlesex County Law Enforcement personnel work with high students creating relationships as they teach the students about law and protection. New Brunswick High School incorporates safety measures within our daily practices. All students and guests enter through scanners and sign in at the security desk. Students and staff are provided with identification cards. The building is monitored with a security system both inside and outside.
New Brunswick High School provides Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs within our course offerings. Students can elect into Drafting and Computer Aided Drafting I & II. All classes are suited with Chromebook carts; have ceiling mounted projectors and sound Systems. Design classrooms use MAC computers. English, Science, Math and Art classrooms are fitted with Smartboards.
New Brunswick High SchoolâÂÂs Early Childhood classes prepare students for child-related careers and more extensive parenting skills through personal interactions with children. Students develop employment skills required to work with children by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum. On-site lab experiences will be a major component of this course.
New Brunswick High School was established in 1863. The school has served the City of New Brunswick well through its long tradition of achievement and service to the community. New Brunswick High School has been located at several locations over its 150 years. In January 2010 New Brunswick moved into its newest facility, a four hundred thousand square foot building that occupies twenty six acres of land. New Brunswick High School is a place where students have the opportunity to excel, both academically and personally, in an environment that acknowledges their individual needs and develops their unique strengths. The physical building houses a 1,200 seat professional theater, a black-box theater, a professional Culinary Arts kitchen, a digital music room, three fully equipped art rooms for Digital Arts programs, Graphic Arts and Photography. Each room has Chromebooks with arts classes using Mac Computers with cutting-edge software installed in each. In addition, New Brunswick High School houses a 2,000 seat Gymnasium and a separate wrestling room. New Brunswick offers the following Advanced Placement courses: AP English Literature and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP U.S. History, and AP Spanish. Students study and participate in science enrichment programs offered by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A number of students also participate in a variety of work-study programs that are designed to develop their employment skills and prepare them for the rigors of post-secondary education. Our students, staff and families share deep pride as the New Brunswick High School community. The New Brunswick "Zebras" have a rich tradition of academics, activities, and athletics.
