Our primary goal is to offer every student an opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences. Our staff utilize a variety of resources and programs to help students achieve literacy goals and apply critical thinking skills, including the utilization of district wide STEM initiatives. We implement research based instructional practices to meet the needs of all students. Professional development is offered to all staff to enhance teaching and meet the domains/elements of the Union City Teacher Effectiveness Framework.

Professional development is provided through high quality professional learning activities that are aligned with teaching and learning standards. Professional workshops are offered by the district and school level. They are supported through coaches, external expert assistance, conferences, and online resources. The following is a list of professional learning initiatives:District Wide Edconnect Data Driven Curriculum Development PLCs, Vocabulary Instruction Initiative, Conquer Mathematics Initiative, and Global Compliance Network Data Base, and Frontline Teacher Effectiveness Tool, and weekly school based PLCs.
The following list includes the support services offered during the 2018-2019 school year: Play Therapy, Social Worker Interventions and Counseling, Port of Entry Bilingual Program, Anti Bullying Specialist, School Resource Police Officer, Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) program for 5th Grade students, and Intervention and Referral Services.
The following list includes the student health and wellness programs offered during the 2018-2019 school year: Day of Physical Examinations, Nutritionist, Flu Shot Administration, Optical Examinations, Autism Awareness, Breast Cancer Awareness, America Diabetes Association, District Health and Wellness Fair, and Asthma Prevention.
The Parent Liaison and the community relations Director facilitate collaborative family activities to meet the academic and emotional needs of students and families. The following list includes parent community involvement programs offered during the 2018-2019 school year: Back to School Night & Welcome Back Parent Night, Back to School Night & Welcome Back Parent Night, Monthly Parent Breakfasts, Bullying and Cyber Bullying Workshops (Social Media), Read Across America, and Health Fairs for Families.
The school facility is consistently inspected to meet mandated state codes. The district maintenance department manage and maintain the facility.
School Safety programs include: The School Safety Team, One Fire Drill Per Month, Additional Emergency Drill Per Month, Designated Staff Trained in CPR, yearly Emergency Drill Inspection and Feedback from Union City Police Department, Anti-Bullying Specialist, Code Blue Emergency Team, Two Evacuation Drills Per Year, and School Resource Officer On Site.
Washington Elementary School received a Bronze Tier Future Ready Designation; George Washington Elementary students participated in STEM Dash and Dot Coding Classes, Washington Elementary students participated in the Union City Science Fair, Tech Facilitators provided PLCs and in class support on the use of google classroom and studyisland; a Science Lab was created to provide general science instruction and STEM instruction to grades one through four.
During the 2018-2019 school year a District Master Kindergarten teacher was deployed to service the Kindergarten classrooms.
