Mission: As a collaborative learning community, we will ensure a quality education for every child by meeting the needs of diverse learners, fostering a collaborative classroom community and guiding our students to become accountable for their own learning. Vision: We will instill a love and passion for learning that will empower our students to become lifelong learners.
School 24 and the Fine and Performing Arts Academy follows the Paterson Public School District curriculum focusing on core academic subjects and special area subjects. School 24 offers Algebra in 8th grade and Pre-Algebra in 7th grade to qualifying students. In addition to core academic classes, The Fine and Performing Arts Academy offers Dance, Chorus, Instrumental Music, Drama, and Piano to the Academy students
Basketball (Boys & Girls), Cheerleading (Boys & Girls), Soccer (Boys & Girls)
Clubs at School 24 include: Student Government, National Junior Honor Society, Art Club, Dance Club, Drama Club, and Spanish Club. School 24 also has a recognized instrumental band. School 24's 7th and 8th grade students participated in National History day. Other Activities include: Celebrations to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, Winter Holiday, Black History Month, 50 Book Club, Family Literacy Night, and Week of Respect, Strings Violin Program.
Focus 21- After school program to increase students' readiness for students in grades 3-8. Arts in Residency Program- After school program providing fine arts and performing arts instruction to elementary and middle school students. Strings Program (Violin) After School Program teaching students how to play the violin.
All staff members participate in professional development relevant to their content area and perfecting their craft. Teachers engage in peer to peer, whole group, and collaborative group professional development opportunities during grade level meetings and Data PLC's, as well as, at the district level. Furthermore, School 24 also provides specialized professional development to build staff capacity in the areas identified by school goals.
PS #24 has bilingual classes in grades K-3 as well as ESL teachers to support grades K-8. PS #24 supports students with IEP's with Resource teachers that follow the accommodations recommended in the student's IEP. Teachers also follow accommodations in student's 504 Plans. There is also a Child Study Team & Guidance Counseling team to support our student population for learning, behavior, and health issues.
PS #24 offers Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) for all students and a majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Students have physical education classes on their schedules as per district guidelines.
We consider parents as partners in the educational process and strongly encourage parental involvement. PS #24 has a Parent Teacher Organization that meets once a month and is open to all parents and school staff to engage in robust conversations to better our school community.
PS #24 is a wonderful facility the integrates the original building with a large addition built about 12 years ago. There is a newer gymnasium, courtyard, media center (library), cafeteria/kitchen, and several newer classrooms. There is the original large auditorium, offices, and classrooms. The majority of the building is air conditioned.
PS #24 has a full time security staff and takes measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff. PS #24 hosts programs to maintain a safe environment, including programs on anti-bullying and school safety.
PS #24 has two computer labs and several computer/iPad carts to integrate technology into lessons.
PS#24 has two Pre-Kindergarten and three Kindergarten classes. Classes range from 18 - 24 students per class.
School 24 and the Academy of Fine and Performing Arts is a PreK-8 building. The building runs on a 6-day cycle. During the six-day cycle, equity is given to all classes to effectively maximize instructional time and ensure academic growth in all subject areas. School 24 is equipped with Smart Boards in classrooms and desktop computers. The school also has two computer labs as well as laptop and IPad carts for students to use. Students at School 24 and the Academy of Fine and Performing Arts use Google Docs and other online platforms to increase collaboration and efficiency with technology.
